Enabling fans to support artists' causes directly

ROLE: SENIOR PRODUCT DESIGNER

In response to the financial challenges artists faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, I led the design implementation of a new feature on Spotify called Artist Fundraising Pick. Now known as Fan Support, this innovative feature allows fans to directly support their favorite artists and causes through third-party platforms such as Cash App, GoFundMe, PayPal, and Marcado Pago. Conceived and implemented in just a month, it stands as a testament to the agility and collaborative spirit of our multidisciplinary team. This marked the first time on Spotify that fans could contribute directly to artists, with Spotify taking no cut, offering a unique and impactful way for creators to mitigate the lost earnings during the pandemic.

  • Led the design implementation of Artist Fundraising Pick, overseeing sprints, collaborating with stakeholders, making necessary compromises to meet deadlines, and developing fan and creator interfaces.

  • Collaborated closely with Product Insights to conduct a series of qualitative research sessions.

  • Utilized insights gained from research to rebrand the feature, moving away from a COVID-centric focus and emphasizing broader support aspects.

  • Explored and crafted visions for the future of the product, considering its integration into our broader monetization strategies.
